I went stash diving a couple of weeks ago, looking for a specific yarn with which to knit a long-admired pattern. Perhaps this was a mistake. I encountered an impressive store of “just-one-skein” oddments – yarns I had coveted and justified purchasing because it was “just one skein” and that doesn’t take much space [...] 
My life has become completely consumed with the new website. There is nothing more boring than hearing someone natter on about adjustments in pixel parameters, so I’ll spare you the details. It’s sort of like laws and sausages – you’d probably rather not know how these things are done. The challenging part is restraint [...] A few years ago, I went to Dublin, and while I was there, I met up with Jo of Celtic Memory Yarns. She gave me some lovely natural grey and white Irish wool. When I got home, I carded the wool and spun it to make a gradated yarn. I started with the white, [...] I have been in suffering in the throes of the dreaded summer cold for the past few days. I think summer colds are worse than winter ones because there are so many things to do when the weather is nice. In summer, I lie here and think, “I could be out riding my bike. [...] I am regrettably late in posting this week, mainly because I got into celebration mode last weekend and haven’t been able to shake the persistent feeling that goofing off should be the norm rather than a special occasion activity. This should probably be two blog posts, in fact, but I have managed to scrape [...] There has been a lot of post-dissertation celebrating going on around here. It all started with a trip to see a film, a visit to the art supply store where I picked up all kinds of goodies to play with, and an epic journey to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Not to [...] I found a happy new home for the Ashford spinning wheel. She is staying in the area, and I couldn’t be more pleased about that. I celebrated my recent freedom to actually have a life by buying myself a new wheel, and not just any wheel – the wheel I [...] Friday night was the monthly spin-in at Knit One One in Berkeley, and I had a great time hanging out with my fiber friends. I was spinning some glorious yak/merino from Tactile on the drop spindle: I also took along Thea’s Towels to show off, and they got lots of love. I’ve been busy updating my course syllabus and website so I can bear the bright, shiny, expectant faces that will greet me come Monday, knowing I have done my best. I’m teaching two sections [...] |
